Tuesday, August 13, 2013 - Des Moines, IA

Woke up at 8:56 and thought about going to back to sleep, but remembered that the free hotel breakfast ends at 9am, so rushed downstairs and grabbed food for the 3 of us.  Sustenance over sleep....hmmm.  Biscuits and gravy for Josh and I and a waffle for Drew.

We all just lounged around the hotel until around 12:00 or so then went to Walmart to pick up a new Ipad charger for Drew since he left his in the last hotel.  The hotel was going to check to see if it was still in the room and get back to me.  I don't think I'll hold my breath. While we were out we had lunch at a little hole in the wall in town that's been in business by the same family since 1952.  Their specialty is a pork tenderloin sandwich...apparently that's a big thing around here.  I'm not sure what the fuss is all about...the sandwich was pretty bland, but apparently the chili cheese fries were pretty darn good...that's what Josh had.

Came back to the hotel and went to the pool for a while before coming back to the room and taking a short but badly needed nap.  Then relaxed until 5:45 before driving over to tonight's game.

Tonight's game was the Iowa Cubs, the AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs and a member of the Pacific Coast League. They were taking on the Sacramento River Cats. Jemile Weeks (River Cats) and Edgar Gonzales (Iowa Cubs and Adrian's brother) were in today's line-up. There was a pretty amazing view of the capital building from inside the stadium.

During the game they do a lot of shirt tosses during the game.  I caught one..actually I picked it up when it landed by my feet!  Gave that one to Drew since the last shirt I caught at a game I had given to Josh.

Josh struck up a conversation with an older couple that were sitting next to him. Turns out that they go to minor league games as they do their traveling, kinda like us, but not quite as extreme.  I love the people and conversations that we have on these trips.  I honestly think I enjoy Minor League games a lot more than Major League games.  A lot more fan interaction and just more fun in general.

Off to bed now. Tomorrow should be another fun, but busy day. We will be going through Council Bluffs Iowa (and possibly Omaha Nebraska), Sioux City Iowa, and finally will end up in Sioux Falls South Dakota.
